If tuning cannot fix your loop, you do not pay for tuning
What you are buying is the tuning work: which constant to move, the exact value to move it to, and a read of what happened when you did. You are charged once PIDSnap has actually handed that over — from the first instruction to change a value. Everything before that, including the baseline step, is free.
The problem is not a tuning problem. The trend shows stiction, backlash or a saturated output, or the loop turns out to be safety-related. PIDSnap cannot help with that loop, so the payment is returned to the account you paid from. You keep the diagnosis and the evidence behind it.
An honest mechanical verdict lands almost at once — the baseline trend, then the first real one, and a sticking valve is already unmistakable. Reached in those first two iterations, the refund is automatic and you do not have to ask. If a session runs longer than that and then turns mechanical, the refund is still yours, but you claim it with a button on the session rather than it happening silently. That way a long session's worth of instructions is not something anyone can collect for free by finishing on a mechanical-looking photo.
The session ended before any change was asked for. The first trend had nothing in it to analyse, or you stopped at the baseline. Nothing has been handed over, so the loop stays unlocked and you can start again for nothing.
The session worked through real changes and did not converge. That one is charged. Five or more changes were tried and read, and it ends with a written diagnosis of what is actually limiting the loop plus the record of every value that was tried — which is worth having, even though it is not the answer you wanted. Why the refund line is drawn there
Because of where the incentive lands. The one thing that must never be tempting is to keep iterating when the honest answer is "your valve is sticking" — so that verdict, and only that verdict, returns the money.
It is drawn on a conclusion PIDSnap reaches from the trend signature and the loop profile, not on whether you tell us the loop got better. That keeps it a promise we can actually hold to. A guarantee that depends on the customer reporting success is not a guarantee, it is an honour system, and it would end with the careful engineers paying for the ones who close the tab.
